Abstract

The Taiwanese feature phone industry continued to witness sequential shipment volume increase in the fourth quarter of 2010, scoring double-digit sequential growth rates staring from the third quarter, while shipment value experienced moderate growth in the fourth quarter of 2010 compared to the third quarter. Motorola, LG, and Sony Ericsson continued to be the top three customers of Taiwanese manufactures in the fourth quarter of 2010. Shipment volume of Motorola's new GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications)/GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) models that had started volume production in the third quarter remained at roughly the same level as the previous quarter in the fourth quarter of 2010. As for LG, in addition to continuous shipment of new models outsourced to Taiwanese manufacturers in the previous quarter, two other new EDGE (Enhance Data rates for GSM Evolution) models were also shipped in the fourth quarter of 2010, providing growth momentum for the Taiwanese feature phone shipment volume in the fourth quarter of 2010.
